Northern Lights

HLarson3 24 Oct 2022

This is a really fun painting, and a pretty simple one too, once past the mountain.

Positives:.
I love the color palette in this one. Mine is a bit more skewed towards the phthalo green side, but I like it. I love the freedom the auroras allow to play with various different colors while still looking natural.
I like my mountains, though I need to spend a few practice sessions with my palette knife to take them up a notch.
The auroras were so much fun. Mine got a little crazy, but I still think it mostly works!
Negatives:
The cabin was a battle.
The final bushes Bob painted near the cabin became a mud mixing festival so I scraped off and made more snow. I think I needed to thin the paint and more properly load my brush.
Seeing and creating the distinctions between individual bushes is a sneaky challenge.

This painting was given to friends of ours that are moving away. I hope they enjoy it for many years!

Love your sky and mountains, and the cabin looks good.

I think it looks great! They will love it for years to come for sure.

I made this one too. I did struggle with my bushes by the cabin as well. But I learned how important it is to use a thin paint and how to use the half round brush then.
