Splendor of Winter

Splendor Of Winter - s15e1

Firstly, lets talk about the border around the picture. A few weeks back, I attempted to paint Bob Ross' version of Purple Haze. After about 30 minutes, I was totally unsatisfied with the results and scrubbed the canvas down with thinner in order to reuse the canvas when it dried. It was after this process that I discovered the really cool pattern left on the canvas. I just could not get the streaks out no matter how light of a touch I used. I then swirled the brush around randomly on the canvas to take advantage of this streakiness. After the canvas dried, it looked like a lavender colored leather to me. It was then that I decided to use this canvas and tape off a border to take advantage of the beautiful happy pattern accident I left on the canvas during the thinner scrub process. I just needed to find the right scene to go with the border and decided on Bob's Splendor of Winter.

As many of you realize by now, I am my own harshest critic, but I must say, I am overjoyed beyond belief with the results of my effort. The thing that bothers me a bit is the fuzzyness of the footy hills, but I'll get over it :)

I really hope I can recreate the look of the border in the future as it is very pleasing to the eye :)

16x20 canvas. Painting #63 in my awesomely fun Bob Ross experience. (fun fact: 26 of the 63 are original compositions, rest are mainly Bob Ross paintings). Never created a painting in my life before Feb 1, 2022. I am really enjoying the journey. As usual picture quality kinda sucks and the painting is much sharper when looking at it.. Still not good at photographing my paintings. I just can't seem to get the camera to focus correctly.

As always, constructive comments/feedback are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking, I appreciate you all.

Your border is a magnificent “happy accident”. The color of that border marries perfectly your sky and footy hills!

Your footy hills look foggy and mysterious. Another little happy accident. They really work well in your painting. We do have that kind of low fog in the winter in Florida.

Beautiful outcome Tony! You did find the perfect picture for your border too!

I think the whole this is so beautiful, the haze around the sun, the lowlights on the mountains, how the sky draws you from one side to the other, the foothills look like they are covered in vast distant trees, that cool shading in the snow then those beautiful foreground trees, Bob himself would have been proud of this one and as for that border, it finishes off this Great painting beautifully. Great job 👍

Very beuatiful!

Awesome way you used an accident to make that cool border! Those mountains really pop against the sky!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Seeing all of the fabulous art submitted by you all inspires me to strive to improve :)
