Graceful Mountains

lazerwulf 18 Apr 2023

This is my third time painting ever. I had some more success this time as I applied too much liquid white for the first two. Still trying to figure things out.

I’m also happy with how the alien citadel in the distance turned out as I was unsure how the black/blue/white acrylics would look with the liquid white/blue on top.

Wow really good for a third time painting! Your sky and mountains are really good!

If I were half as good on my third painting I'd be Bob Ross now.
This is really nice.

Really nice

Thanks everyone for looking and the encouraging comments.

I’m not terribly happy with the shape and form of my vegetation/mountains and next time I need to follow the book and video much closer. I didn’t really use any picture references and just “winged it” on the vegetation/mountains and they have too much uniformity to them.

There is some very inspiring stuff on this site and I’m glad I found it.

Overall, I’m happy with some of my color values but was having trouble laying down more paint once I got to putting down highlights and had to dig into the thinner/liquid white quite a bit as I couldn’t get the paint to flow/stick. If it gets to that point do I give it a day to dry out or use paper towels or something?

I really like the shadows in the foreground mountain.. really caught my eye .. great job .. happy painting

I've learned from others here to take a break when it gets hard to stick. Usually a half hour is good, then try again. I personally don't like paint thinner in the trees, seems to do something weird to them. Paper towels will moosh your work. Hit it hard with liquid white, or clear if you have it, and just barely touch the canvas or you'll get mud. Hope some of this helps.
