This was a fun yet challenging painting to create. I really enjoyed working on the waves and trying to capture their movement and depth. The mountains were also interesting to paint, especially getting the highlights and shadows to feel natural. The hardest part was probably making the waves look dynamic while keeping them consistent with the perspective.
I used water-mixable oil paints, which made the process a bit easier since cleanup was simpler. If anyone has tips on refining wave details, I’d love to hear them!
Definitely movement in those waves and they look pretty good to me. I started working on this one yesterday but had to leave it half way through, with the waves unfinished, I'm gonna have to go over the bottom half again coz I expect the blue will be too dry to work on🥵. One tip I'd like to share for your waves is simply to look at what others have done with theirs, pick out the bits you like the look of and give them a try.
Thanks for the tip and nice words! If you worked on it yesterday it should be wet enough to work on it today as well but if you feel that the paint is not sliding that well you could add a small amount of liquid clear to the painting.
Nice!! A lot of beauty here!
Thank you Hank. It was bone dry. I don't paint wet on wet, more damp on damp, I put that little liquid clear on and that little paint over the top its dry in no time. I'll re-do it, it's no biggy. Always something new to learn!
