Final Reflections

This is the second painting my boyfriend and me have done so far with Bob. Whilst we accidentally mixed oil and acrylic paints for the first one (which ended up in a little bit of a mess), we deliberately chose to just work with acrylics on this one to see how different the experience and final look would be. I must say: I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. What really helped was using a screen print medium as the foundation layer instead of magic white as it helped keeping the background wet, which really helped when it came to the reflections in the water as well as the creation of the sky (however, it also caused some of the paint to lift off from the canvas and move around, which meant adding more colourful shrubbery to conceal (I really like them though and I think they added to the composition - happy little accidents). The other thing that really made a difference was using thicker acrylic paints to mimic the characteristics of the oil paints (especially for the mountains, the lake shore/bank and putting texture into the clouds). I think I am struggling a little with building fluffy, layered trees and bushes and making the clouds look more organic and flowing. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Acrylics

This looks so nice! The little flowers on the left push the lake back so nicely and tie together the image! I also like how much darker the left side is, makes sense with the light coming in from that direction. Great great job, very stylish!

It does look nice. I think that acrylics are ok for layering in some ways, because the fast dry time. If you want to work wet on wet, really that's what oils are for; acrylics cannot accomplish Bob's wet on wet in the same manner that he teaches. You'll have to make lots of adjustments. Some people here use acrylics, so it can be done. But like the water, its just not going to be the same.

Nice work πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ
