I decided to take and risk and try something. For this oval painting, I skipped making the contact paper stencil altogether and just did it by hand, following a pencil outline. I don't think I'll go back as this is a much less complex and error-prone approach that achieves similar results.

Wow! This is beautiful! You really know how to work with light, create depth and darkness. It creates such a strong mood.
Great painting yet again! The contrast between the orange spots and all the blue / darker shades and the mist gives it much eeriness. I like it a lot!
