Hi everyone. I've been looking through this site for a while now. Using it to decide what painting I want to do next. Here lately I've spent a lot of time looking through the artwork that has been uploaded and decided it was time to introduce myself.
A few years ago, my wife, my stepdaughter and I signed up for a "paint like Bob Ross" class. I watched several episodes as a kid in the 80's and always wanted to try it. I've never had any artistic ability though. I fully expected to leave this 4 hour class with a canvas covered in mud. We painted Northern Lights, and much to my surprise, I brought home something that looked decent.
I talked with my wife about it often. Told her I really enjoyed it and thought someday I should get setup and try to develop some skills. Well my birthday came and she surprised me with everything I needed to get going.
At the time, there we were going through a hard time in our lives. We were under so much stress. I tried a few paintings but I just couldn't relax, focus, and enjoy it. So my supplies sat unused for a couple years. My wife was heartbroken, thinking I'd given up on it forever. I kept telling her I hadn't. I'd get back in there "someday".
Someday arrived while I was burning some vacation time last Christmas. I started painting along with Bob. Like many of you, I am my own worst critic. My wife had nothing but compliments for every painting I do, and I'd stand there and pick it apart. I also recognized where I made improvement and try to build on that with the next painting. I have now completed 21 paintings. This here is number 18.

Welcome (along with me) to the "I have no artistic ability, but I want to try this anyway" club! It is a fun and addictive hobby. As Bob stressed, "if there's any secret, it's practice." Early on, I started a notebook to keep track of what worked and what didn't with my paintings. Three notebooks later, it's still fun and a learning process. Enjoy your journey!

This is truly lovely. The great thing about art is, you can take a break and come back. And if you stick with it, it is possible to follow along with Bob and make some really nice works.
