Under Pastel Skies

Boz 02 May 2020

Hi everyone! I’ve often used your great website when looking for a Bob video to follow along to, so thought I would join the community.

I started painting about 18 months ago after picking up a sports injury that freed up a bunch of my time. It was good fun so I kept at it.

Happy to be here,

Hi Sunnylady! Thanks for the welcome and the advice.

This looks great! The planes give it lots of depth.

Hi Ian. Thank you. Depth and plane is something I’ve started to concentrate on. Using the paler shades the further back into the painting is something I really struggled with initially.

That's great you are working on planes and depth. I may add i bit of advice. For the objects that are far away add opposite color to it to dull it just a tiny bit. Distance grays things out as well as it makes them bluer. For instance: add tiny bit of brown to the blue. You are totally on the right path!

By the way mountain on the left is just awesome!

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Bienvenue Boz! A wonderful painting you added there, next to some other awesome ones! You certainly have the tools and the skills for oil painting! Super!!

That’s great advice Sunnylady, thank you. I shall try adding opposite colour.... now let’s print out a colour wheel 😄

Hi Voy Kay! Thank you. This is a great site for seeing how people all have their own styles and how a reference painting can be interpreted differently.
