Meadow Brook Surprise

Gandalf_55 08 Jul 2020

This is my fifth painting. Overall I really enjoyed doing the water, tree limbs, and grass. Painting the water and having to constantly wipe off the brown to prevent mud mixing was probably the hardest part. I may have covered up too much white in the sky and too much dark in the grass. Sorry about the glare in the photo but I’m too tired to take another lol.

I like your sky and foreground trees. When I paint streams I add a little liquid white to help the white paint flow over the dark.
Like you, I struggled with glare on photos until I learned to lay the painting on the floor and stand over it to photograph. I do it in a room with a north facing window in a place where direct light from the south is blocked. I experimented in many places including outdoors until I found the perfect no glare area. I hope this helps.

Thank you, Forestvuegallery! I did add a bit of liquid white to the water mix, but I probably could’ve used more to thin it down. I’ll try the laying the painting on the floor method to take a picture of it next time, thanks!

I love the stream! Can't believe this is only your 5th painting. Incredible!
