Mountain Summit

thewickedpossum 30 Nov 2020

Well, this was my first ever oil painting. I'm 34 years old and I never thought I could do it. I seriously cannot wait to do the next one.

Welcome! Great job on your first painting!

That's your first one?! Wow. I painted Mountain Summit as my first, but my rendition is, to put it mildly, abstract. I'm particularly impressed by the mountains and like how you did multiple shadow colors on the dark side.

The shadow layers were almost accidental. I remember after watching these things forever that you can kind of mix your paint, but don't mix it until it's all even and that can give some marbly texture, so that's what I did.

I want to work on my clouds, the fog at the bottom of the mountain, and definitely my foliage "layering." I think that I used too much medium to start with and that left me with a wetter canvas than I needed. Overall, though, I'm pretty happy with it and I am very excited about the next one.
