Falls in the Glen

lightsnow 09 May 2019

This was my 14th attempt at painting and my first completely original painting based off real scenery from where I live. Spring has brought a lot of rain here. I was driving down the highway through the mountains last week on a dreary, rainy day and noticed there was a lot of clouds/mist veiling the mountains. I thought that would make for a nice painting so I tried to represent what I saw in this painting. I made the larger mountain on the left using black acrylic and let it dry. I then added some liquid white for the sky, which creates the illusion that the clouds are veiling the tips of the evergreens there. I then went a little crazy with the misty effects and tried making some more up close evergreens that would have some sunlight reflected on them

16x20 on a pretty good canvas
