Peaks of Majesty

I really loved the sky color in this one. The reflections in the water really came together well also.

I feel like the mountains look a little cartoony, and the "subtle" change in the shadow color I was going for seems much more drastic in this photo than in the original.

All in all though, I'm pretty happy with this one. I really like how the texture in the grasses came out too.

You're too hard on yourself. The mountains are great, and so is the rest of the painting. I'd take that any day

One of the reasons I stopped painting from other works is I fussed and fretted over how mine looked compared to the original. Just paint whatever/however makes you happy.

Great job. 👍

@Alex_Ander Thanks! You're right, I am too hard on myself. I just walked out to where I paint and saw this on the easel still and was really impressed with how it all looks. I'm going to be very proud to give this one away, and I know whoever I give it to will love it! And the more I look at them, I love the mountains even more. Thanks for the reminder about that!

And you're right about painting your own instead of from someone else's work. Many of my most favorite paintings are ones that I did on my own.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Sometimes, we are too close to our work. When we come back to it a few days later, we see everything in a new light. At least, I have, anyway.

Now, I'm not saying I don't use other paintings for inspiration. It's just when I go to paint, I'm not looking at anything other than the canvas and what's taking place there...for good or for ill. 😀
