You all know by now that when I disappear for a while, I am working on a big project… well here it is!
I got commissioned to replicate this beautiful composition of Brightwell for a friend. He has a reproduction of this painting but it’s not big enough to put over his fireplace. He kept telling me that he wished he could have it bigger. I told him I could do it. He decided on a 30”x40”… the biggest canvas I had to do so far. He wanted me to add 2 more kids (so a total of 3) and a Rottweiler. I will add few more details to them. But for most part, it’s done. It took me almost 2 weeks to get through.
I have attached the version of the original my friend has (cropped version) and Brightwell’s full original composition.
Great learning experience. Specially painting humans! It was a delight to paint on such a big surface.

Awww! Thank you Mata! 😊 Like Bob would say..."Talent is a pursued interest!" So true! I may have an ease to learn how to paint, but I have worked very hard to get the desired outcome at each of my paintings. If you don't like something about your compo, don't leave it there, it will haunt you to the core. Scrape it off and you rework it until you are satisfied with it. That's one big piece of the puzzle. Also, try different artists' tutorials. You will improve in no time! 😉 Happy Holidays my friend! 🎅🏼

Such a fantastic job! Definitely pro level work. I LOVED getting the chance to paint on a large (36x48) canvas once, but not everyone has space for such big paintings LOL. And I had to rig my easel in a way to do it! Anyway I love this scene and your barn is terrific as well as those cute little people and rottie!

Laura!! Thank you so so much. The shadows make this painting so much more alive and real. I learned lots doing them. I caught a flaw on Brightwell's original. The barn shadow was wrong. I had to do a replica of the barn and shine my flashlight in the same direction as the painting has it (the boy & dog's shadow were my reference). To my surprise, the shadow of Brightwell was wrong!
