Cabin in the Hollow

DaveJ 31 Dec 2021

I enjoyed painting this little snow scene on an A3 sized canvas using my usual light grey gessoed canvas (see my article) on which I first painted the background trees (value 4) and then surrounded them with the black gesso of the other trees. If I can figure out how to load the photo of the prepared canvas prior to oils, I’ll put it up. In hindsight, I should have added a 2nd tree on the right to more realistically achieve the spread of branches on that side - or just moved the base across to behind the front of the cabin. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Very nice! I love the green you added - it really plays nicely with the purples!

Thanks Flippergirl, it was an unplanned, last minute addition to an area that looked a bit barren, that fitted well. Cheers and Happy New Year.
