Aurora's Dance

lightsnow 19 Jan 2020

This is #30 for me. It isn't an interpretation of Aurora's Dance - I just couldn't find a Ross painting that resembled what I made. As with my last attempt, I tried to create this one freely with little to no reference. I was trying to create a milky way type of night sky, but ended up with some kind of milky way/aurora borealis hybrid. It took me a solid year of training in this style to finally be able to create from my imagination rather than follow along to an episode of The Joy of Painting. It's definitely been worth it as I can now move on to adding painting to my arsenal of relaxing, mindful activities. At the same time, I'm still working on speed and finished this one in under an hour. That means I can now start painting in the evening, unplanned, in order to relax, rather than plan an afternoon on a weekend. It's been a great journey up till now and I'm looking forward to continuing with this trend of improvising and speed-painting. This was done on a black 16x20 canvas.

Wow! this sets a lovely mood. The hills and trees in the distance are excellent, not to mention the reflections...and all under an hour! Congratulations on #30!

Great one Lightsnow! I so much like the idea you had behind this and how well (AND fast!!) you worked it out on canvas. Sky, background, reflections, bushes …. it all fits so nicely together and you have my applause!! :)

Congratulations with the 30th painting! The sky looks amazing! Impressive how fast you made it. If you ever read about intuitive painting I think this will be falling into this category now, because it makes you loosen up and CREATE from the hidden resources of the brain! You did an amazing journey to perfect your style and timing! I am looking forward to see more of your artworks!

What an awesome take on this!!!!!!

Fantastic!

The depth of colour in the water is just stunning. It certainly has a familiar wide open country feel to it. (Not that we have snow here but we do have the open skies which I appreciate very much.) Beautiful job. (Taits mum)

Beautiful sky , foothills and reflections!
