Snowfall Magic

Voy Kay 28 Jan 2020

Canvas used was a cheap 12"x16". I very much liked sky and background yet my placements are no good. The birches should have been more upfront and that tree on the left was a pure 20 minute agony to try and get something right. The snowfall was about the easiest thing to do for this painting. Not happy with the final result of this creation but maybe I am too harsh on myself today.

Nice colors in the sky and pretty highlights in your trees!

I love pastel skies and painting birches, they about the easiest trees around!

Well done! I think it more complex than we realize at the starting point. I attempted and erased it fully because of the failure. I think my birch tree became a monster and I got mad at myself.

You got nice sky and background trees there!

I agree with @SunnyLady, this composition is more difficult than it appears at first. I think you did a great job. Your birch trees are excellent!

Love the birches, but I like the background and 20 minute tree as well...lots of depth. Great colors in the sky.

Dear Sunnylady, it is indeed somewhat complex due to th filling in of the beackground, which is so essential for some depth creation. Personally I think there is too much snow and that thus my placement of the birches is too far back. I so much like painting birches, for me it's about the easiest tree to paint. between us, I only believe that since I really got the hang of it how to implement both the paint layers (dark and white) with a palet knife. In the future. I'm gonna focus on birches even, next to other trees of course.

Dear Dracula, I'm still not convinced of the result yet my family does, since they are rather critical but they love it, specially the background and of course …. the birches!

Dear Kelly, skies and birches have become some sort of specialty I believe! Smiling here now. The 20 minute tree, and it really took that long!, was a nightmare since for some reason, the paint would not stick, whatever amount of paint and paint thinner I used. I tried ten, twenty different approaches and had a Hercules task with it!

I think you did a fantastic job.
