Hide A Way Cove

TheBerg 17 Mar 2020

I tried to stretch my background color and ended up diluting it too much which imho is why the foreground is not great. Not the first time I've made that mistake; When i pick up my brushes again, I know i will be more attentive to contrast.
Love the way the sky & reflection turned out. Cake icing mountains is probably due to fact i didn't prime with a 2nd coat.
I didn't really like using the two inch brush technique for the trees, made the brush almost un-reusable from all the paint loaded in, but the island as a whole came out pretty well all things considered.

I like very nice and soft blending in the sky. Water with reflections is very nice and calm as well. Probably if you'd add more dark color for the foreground it would make the grass pop and add the shape to the bushes and to the tree. When it dries you can add(if you wish) more dark tones between the bushes and branches in the tree closer to the trunk. There should be wider value chart in the front. Take black and white photo of the painting, you'll see big difference between the island and foreground. You'll understand more what is lacking in the front. The distant trees and island are great by the way!
