Towering Glacier

dracula 19 Sep 2020

I've looked forward to this one since I first saw the episode maybe a 18 months ago. There were some compositional moves I made early on that I'm not 100% sure about (too late now), but all in all Towering Glacier is very rewarding to paint and I recommend it to anyone who's been thinking about giving it a try.

In particular, I consider this composition to be a good "value" in that its not very much more difficult than any others, but the bold and majestic elements come together in a sensible and powerful fashion that makes for an effective painting with a good amount of drama all without having to fuss and fiddle over a million different things. To use an American colloquialism: you get a lot of bang for your buck. In that respect, this painting took me a little less time than average, somewhere around 4 hours.

I tend to enjoy the Bob ross paintings that make clear a distinction between sky and foreground. Perhaps a result, however is that I couldn't seem to get a very good photograph of this one, but it's probably ok.

Very powerful painting Dracula! The glacier is a big boss here. The edge of it looks so rough that it seems very dangerous to be there.

Super quality painting. Very high performence!!!

Really like this one Dracula. It’s on my list.

Really super! Hoping mine will be as great. Love the beautiful mist at the foot of the glacier. β€πŸ–Œ
