Waterfall in the Woods

Voy Kay 05 Mar 2021

After last week's forest disaster (Enchanted forest), really needed something to boost my spirit and came up with this one.

Cavas used was a recycled HQ 12"x16". Easiest parts here were the fall, the rocks and the water. Toughest was to keep the green values under control, and I think I managed that.

Please enjoy this one!

I really like this one. Especially those rocks with the sharp edge and the big tree on top. I think this really is a painting to boost your spirit and give you motivation. 👍

It really did Umagaan! That's also the reason why I went slowly with this (just under two hours) simply to enjoy it all!

Right rocks are about the best I ever did. The secret is the colouring (lighter on the top) and the angle of the palet knife (45° sideways on top, the rest straight downwards) cause that creates that sharp edge (apply some white with the scriptliner if needed).

Well you've done a cracking job this time voy, it's lovely. You really should slow down and do them all like this. The one I did in lavender is my favourite of my own paintings but I no longer have it. Yours looks fabulous in blue and it makes me want to paint it again. Really well done.

Lovely comment TLP, thanks so much.

Indeed, Bob instructed to use about 50-50 A. crimson and P. blue here, which resulted in more a blue tainted atmosphere then a purple one, much to my liking. That blue really contrasts so well with the hard green used. In fact even too hard so that I really forced some yellow and white into that green here and there. It all worked out well to get some much needed variety into the greens.
And yes, most of my work in 2021 has been done in haste. The more I paint slower and relaxed, the better my creations. Worth to think very hard about that!

Till next one!

Nice one Voy! That waterfall really draws the eye. You did a great job on this one.

Thanks Lori, I needed these kind of comments! You are an artist of great caliber!

Hahaha Toadi, so much appreciate your cheers!
Indeed, this painting rises and falls with the rocks which in fact are not difficult at all. The highlighting needs most of the painter's focus, the rest is plain sailing!

The more I look at it the more I like it. Love the sparkling water drops below the waterfall.

Dear Umagaan, that's a speciality from me. I invite you to read my article about this. Also have a look at LoriEC's creation in purple of this one, which is a real stunner as well!!
