Distant Hills

Retired_and_Painting 21 Mar 2024

Number 2 painting. The cloud rolling in from the middle right didn't quite work out as I wanted it to, but I'll take it. Still having issues with putting in bushes and highlighting. I think I did a little "mud mixing" there. I'm trying to get the right combination of thinner paint to go over the thicker. I may just practice that part a little more in depth. The big tree needs work...LOL...all's good though. Bob just makes it look way too easy!!!

I'm doing a painting for each of my (3) sisters for Christmas. This is one of them. Two more to go. What a great time I'm having and looking at all of the other fantastic paintings on this site!

Added an update to original painting. Fixed the right middle cloud area and big tree. Now I'm happy!

Hey R_a_P,. First time, good work. Bill, Bob and the other top artists always make it look easy and are super fast. My approach was to practice individual parts. Only mountains, only trees, only water with reflections, etc. so you can create a solid base, it helped me and I still do it in between๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Very nice 2nd painting. I've done mud mixing as well. I saw one artist use a paper towel to remove excess paint before applying the highlights and bushes, that seems to help.

Thank you so much. I plan on doing just that...with the basics that is. Great advice!

Yes, I did try that Yucel. I think I just put the first layer down a tad too thick. Mistakes turn into better things I hope!

Nice. Just keep at it, you will improve.this looks great for only a second painting

Thank you so much Coldethel. I'm pretty hard on myself so I'll probably go back and fix up the tree a bit and the "cloud" coming in from the middle right. All being sad I'm happy with it. And...I looked at your paintings...they are fantastic. You are very, very good!

Since I wasn't thrilled with the dumb cloud and big tree, I went back and put another bank of trees in the middle part of the cloud and fixed up the tree to my liking. Now I'm happy!

Lovely, enjoy and keep painting, cheers

You are off and running. Nice job, especially for only your 2nd painting. Read your bio - thank you for your service and enjoy.

Thank you TonyM. Appreciate your kind comments. Debated with myself about that bio but...well...Bob was a big part of it, thus bringing me to here.
